A group of Ashley Hall students have been making their mark on the wall behind the new Jack's Cosmic Dogs in West Ashley, but not to worry — the girls haven't turned to the dark side. The mural project was led by the school's studio arts and sculpture department and approved by the restaurant. Their assignment was to develop a mural concept with owner Jack Hurley's wishes in mind, then execute it as a team. The finished product reflects the funky, retro vibe of the eatery with rocket-shaped condiment bottles and singing hot dogs and French fries.
Teacher Nancy Langston said in a recent release, "The girls met with Jack and Dave at the restaurant, presented preliminary sketches and ideas to Jack, listened to his vision for the restaurant, designed and created a mural with consideration for the space, and saw the mural through to installation. Jack’s enthusiasm for the project provided a perfect platform for the girls’ imagination to open 'full throttle.'"
There will be a reception for the students on Tues. Sept. 27 at 6 p.m. Stop by 817 St. Andrews Blvd. to check it out. See more pictures of the new space here.
