Marc Regnier, a Grammy-nominated classical guitarist and College of Charleston professor, recently released his fifth CD, Tempo do Brasil.

Focused on Brazilian music and its various styles, this new CD features Regnier on guitar both as a soloist and in a variety of ensemble settings — including the unusual duo of piano and guitar in “Sonatina,” by Radamés Gnattali. Regnier says he’s especially pleased to have found this piece, as he believes Gnattali makes this pairing work quite well. “I think the recording would be of interest to anyone who enjoys guitar music, but especially to an audience who enjoys virtuoso music outside the mainstream, people who enjoy classical and world music,” Regnier says.

A classical guitarist who has performed and given master classes all over the world, Regnier holds the position of chairman of CofC’s guitar department, a position he’s held since 1994. “All of our music department faculty at the College of Charleston perform, conduct master classes, and record internationally,” Regnier says. “All of us bring this experience to our students — something you can’t learn out of a book.”
