I just squealed when I saw Blue Bicycle Books' latest Instagram post. If you listen to 99.3 The Box every morning like I do, you'll understand why. Come to find out, The Breakfast Club radio host Charlamagne tha God — "Moncks' Corner's own, Charleston's own" — will be speaking at PURE Theatre for a book signing hosted by Blue Bicycle Books in April.

Charlamagne tha God, a.k.a. Lenard McKelvey, grew up in Moncks Corner before his rise to fame. After a stint in prison, the future shock jock found a spot as the second mic on Wendy Williams. His sarcasm, wit, and fearless interview style quickly got the controversial personality noticed and after leaving Williams' show, and after being fired from a few jobs in between, Charlamagne scored a place on The Breakfast Club. There he and his co-hosts, Angela Yee and DJ Envy, have mastered the radio interview. Case in point, Charlamagne's first question to big pharma exec. and Wu-Tang memorabilia collector Martin Shkreli was “First question: Are you a privileged, entitled prick?

His outspoken swagger has led to a role on MTV2's Guy Code, the host gig on MTV2's Uncommon Sense, and his own star turn in a comic book, Charlamagne Tha God's Marvel New Year's Eve.

Now, with the release of his first book Black Privilege, the provocateur returns home.

On April 22 the radio host will visit PURE Theatre for a conversation with ABC News 4’s Tessa Spencer where he'll share his "eight principles to unlocking your God-given privilege." Tickets are $30 and come with a copy of Black Privilege: Opportunity Comes to Those Who Create It.
