School may be out, but the North Charleston Cultural Arts Department encourages students to keep learning through their summer children’s theater series. The series begins on Fri. June 16 with two performances of Hansel and Gretel
by Red Herring Puppets.
Red Herring’s interpretation of the well-known fairy tale uses traditional marionettes, shadow puppets, and classical music to bring the story to life. Red Herring recommends the show for pre-K through fifth grade students, but children and adults of all ages are welcome to attend.
The company's award-winning touring shows provide “edutainment” for young audiences across the country and fits into the state’s curriculum standards, making for a great field trip. Red Herring also provides free downloadable study guides for each show, which instructors and parents alike can use to make the shows a fun learning opportunity.
The first performance will be Fri. June 16 at 10 a.m. at Northwood Park and Recreation Center. The second will be that afternoon at 2 p.m. at Danny Jones Recreation Center. Tickets are $2 per child. Adults attend for free.
