Ill Vibe the Tribe
"Color Theory Jean-Michael," 11 X 17, Mixed Media, by Fart.PDF
presents their second Art Binge art market at The Royal American, featuring visual art, live performances, a tarot reading, and a ton of creatives all under one roof.
The four featured visual artists hail from Charleston (Mado Smith
and Destini Jihada
), Columbia, S.C. (Benjamin Moore aka Fart.PDF
), and Conway, S.C., (Maya Ajani
A graduate of College of Charleston's studio art program, Smith works with paint as his primary medium, "manipulating color patterns like a code to unlock some latent memory from a dream."
Jihada crafts jewelry, coiling copper wire around healing crystals. Each crystal, from smoky quartz to citrine to blue kyanite, has its own meanings, and possesses its own powers.
Moore's chosen nom de plume, Fart.PDF, is hilariously confusing on the surface, but is actually quite purposeful. According to Moore, the name Fart "represents that urge you get when you have to fart. It's that simple. When something builds up, let it out. Another meaning to give it comes from a more humble place. I'm not the shit, yet, I'm just Fart. The dot PDF, which is an acronym for Protected Data Files, represents what we all are. Walking, talking thoughts, memories, experiences, desires..." So there you have it: let it out. The Columbia-based artist experiments with various techniques and mediums.
Maya Ajani's pieces are incredibly detailed
Ajani's work is a play on "colorful cartoon realism," filled with so much detail it begs for you to look once, twice, and then closer and closer.
Hakeem of Dope Black King.com
will do a tarot card reading; the self-described "Southern Black millennial" works to help people live "the best lives they can."
