There's something to be said for experiencing a film in a theater, amongst other theater goers, taking in every scene differently, but in unison: it's a shared experience. Short films capture bursts of experience — rise, fall, fin — taking viewers on a visual journey that jerks even the most insouciant participant wide awake.

Wed. Jan. 24, 2018, experience two hours of the best short films from the past and present at the 36th Annual Asbury Shorts Film Film Festival held at the Charleston Music Hall.

Asbury Shorts USA is NYC's longest running short film exhibition and touring show. They've screened their short film "concerts" across the U.S., Canada, Great Britain, and Germany. This 36th annual concert will feature "a fast paced and highly entertaining line up of the best in short film Comedy, Drama and Animation."

One highlight from the fest includes a screening of The Quality of Mercy, a 12-minute dark comedy starring Emmy and Tony award winner Mary Louise Parker. Playing an actress in New York City, Parker unwittingly enters a cafe and sits at the same table as a tough theater critic who panned her performance in an Off Off Broadway play a year earlier. The work received "Best Short Film" at the Montreal World Film Festival.

Tickets are $12.50, and $44.50 for a dinner and film option at either Vincent Chicco or Virginia's on King.
