On Sat. June 29, aspiring and accomplished writers alike can partake in the first Scribes Writers Conference, taking place at the Circular Congregational Church from 9:45 a.m.-6 p.m. You can now register online.

Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy was released last September and featured 67 contributing writers. The Scribes Writers Conference brings six of those 'scribes' to this full day of lectures and workshops on the art of writing.

This event, presented by the Pat Conroy Literary Center in partnership with the South Carolina Writers Association, Buxton Books, and the Companion Foundation, features 'scribes' that include South Carolina's poet laureate Marjory Wentworth and Charleston writer, teacher, and attorney Sean A. Scapellato.

The day's workshops will address the art of writing compelling beginnings, the poetry of place, nature writing and journaling, and creative organization.
