Full disclosure: The Orange Spot Coffeehouse’s Laura Cannon works at City Paper. That said, we’d be writing about the shop anyway even if she didn’t, as Cannon and her business partner Julie Simuang have done a bang up job bringing the coffee shop to life. And to celebrate, this Sunday they’re hosting their one-year birthday party. The free event will include an assortment of entertainment like music from the V-Tones, coffee roasting demos from Coastal Coffee Roasters, photo book production from Flip Flix, and a caricature artist.

“My Sister’s House will have a table set up at the event, and with any donation amount that people give they will receive a birthday pack of custom-made stickers designed by local artist Krista Engler,” says Cannon. “And a matching Orange Spot button, along with a postcard from Ink Meets Paper.”

For bites, Cory’s Grilled and King of Pops will be on hand. At 2:15 a customer has organized a one-and-a-half-mile “fun run” and all participants will be entered to win a gift card or T-shirt.

But the best part? Cannon says at 3 p.m. the opening ceremonies begin with a singing of “Happy Birthday” and a bunch of babies smashing sheet cakes. For more details, click here
