Every year Bon Appetit
publishes a list of the 50 Best New Restaurants in America
. Using a rubric weighing every dining detail from "design, lighting, and music to the service, experience, and, of course, the food,” the noted food mag makes their picks. And on Wednesday, Bon Appetit
revealed that our Morrison Drive neighbors Edmund’s Oast made the cut.
In the write-up, restaurant and drinks editor Andrew Knowlton calls Edmund’s a “modern temple to craft beer.” He praises Chef Andy Henderson’s "creative bar snacks and small plates." Knowlton adds, “Forget what you know about Charleston restaurants ... there’s not a gas lamp in sight.”
Upon hearing the news, Edmund's co-owner Scot Shor shared his feelings on the nomination.
"We are humbled, flattered, and grateful by this surreal attention," Shor says. "I think the heart of the matter is that we have always approached what we do as a labor of love driven by the urge to seek quality without compromise. To us, that means making decisions not for their cost effectiveness, but rather for the sake of pursuing what feels right."
Shor adds, "We approach Edmund's everyday with the intention of creating the place we'd want to go as a guest."
list will be culled down into The Hot 10 winners and announced on August 19, so stay tuned to see if the beer temple makes it to the next round.
