"Tighten your bible belts. it’s going to be a wild ride!" That's what Big Gay Ice Cream's Douglas Quint and Bryan Petroff, the couple and owners of the beloved New York City soft-serve biz, wrote on their blog yesterday. Turns out the two are renting a soft-serve truck and heading to Dixie for their first Southern tour. And great news Big Gay fans, they're stopping in Charleston. On Sun. Oct. 19 the Big Gay truck will land at Butcher & Bee from roughly 3-10 p.m.

The tour is all part of the company's fifth anniversary celebration and will culminate in Oxford, Miss. on Oct. 25 for the Southern Foodways Alliance's 17th annual symposium.

On the blog, Quint and Petroff write: "This year’s symposium, “Who is Welcome at the Welcome Table?,” marks the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act, which desegregated places of public accommodation including restaurants. The symposium takes a deep dive into the present, focusing on who is welcome at the contemporary welcome table, asking questions about inclusion and exclusion in the modern South, while taking into account old and new imperatives like ethnicity, sexuality, diet, class, gender and race."

For their Charleston visit, Butcher & Bee's Randi Weinstein says, "The plan is to extend our lunch service and extend the Daily's hours that day." Big Gay Ice Cream will be filming their entire road trip, Weinstein tells us, so start prepping your cameo face, and prepare to purchase some Salty Pimp in two weeks.
