We were beginning to think Chef Bob Waggoner's new cooking school, In the Kitchen with Chef Bob Waggoner
, was never going to open. When the former Charleston Grill chef told us in October of his contract to craft the menu for Generalísimo restaurant
(565 King St.) — the brainchild of Southern Charm
creators Whitney Sudler-Smith and Bryan Kestner
— it looked like In the Kitchen may be waylaid indefinitely. But, after four months of DIY construction at 164-A Market St., we're told In the Kitchen will, in fact, open Fri. Dec. 26.
As Waggoner shared back in September, his plan is to offer an intimate culinary class experience. Each evening the former star of PBS' U Cook with Chef Bob
will host 10 guests for a three-hour, four-course dinner, and "everyone will really have to make their own food,” Waggoner says.
The award-winning chef says his shift from the high-stress world of fine dining — which he most recently experienced as the consulting/executive chef at Nashville’s Watermark
restaurant — was party due to frustration with a lack of drive in the kitchen. “All these kids want to be Guy Fieri,” he told us in September.
