Jeni's Splendid Ice Cream
has once again shut down temporarily due to listeria found in their production facilities. In a blog post today
CEO John Lowe states that listeria was discovered earlier this week as part of routine swabbing.
He goes on to say, "We stopped production earlier this week and have been investigating where and how it may have re-entered the facility. We have a theory and are testing that theory." Very mysterious Mr. Lowe.
In the meantime scoop shops will close because there simply is not enough ice cream to keep them stocked now that they have ceased production. Lowe says that the company is just glad that they caught the listeria before it got into any ice cream.
Jeni's originally closed
their eight locations on April 23 after realizing that listeria may have gotten into their frozen products including ice cream, yogurt, and sorbets.
They reopened on May 22
, debuting several new flavors of sundaes.
