As we all probably know, biscuits are a hotly contested topic in the south. However, one of the least debated meccas of all that is holy in biscuit has just been recognized by the Specialty Food Association. Carrie Morey, the genius behind Callie’s Charleston Biscuits
took home not one but two golden trophies from the Sofi Awards
Carrie Morey is behind Callie's success.
In case you aren’t in the know, the sofi Awards are the tip-top honor in the specialty food industry, now in their 43rd year of honoring the yummiest of specialty foods. The awards consisted of a national panel of 36 specialty food experts, who spent an entire eight — of what we can only assume were heavenly — days tasting and evaluating entries. Judges came from food shops like Whole Foods Market, Food52 Shop, Kroger, Fresh Direct, Mouth.com, Citarella, Cooper’s Hawk Winery & Restaurants, Williams-Sonoma, and Food & Wine.
Selected out of 2,771 entries and 32 award categories like chocolate, jam, preserve, honey, nut butter, and oil, Callie’s Cheese and Chive Biscuits were awarded the category of “Breads, Muffins, Granola or Cereal” and her Country Ham Biscuits took home the bacon for the “Frozen Savory” category.
To top it off, speakers like Ted Allen and Alex Guarneschelli from Chopped
hosted the gala red-carpet awards ceremony at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York City. Carrie says, “It is the highest honor to be recognized among the people that I look up to in my industry,” and goes on to say, “Most importantly, I’m beyond grateful that I have a job, a career, that is my life passion — food.”
