First Look: Mercantile and Mash open next week

Belly up to the bar

Over the past year Indigo Road (Macintosh, Indaco, Oak Steakhouse) has been working on transforming a space in the Cigar Factory (701 East Bay St.). On Wed. Sept. 23 their efforts will be revealed when Mercantile (a boutique/coffee shop) and Mash (a bar) open.

We got the first look today. Local architect David Thompson has designed the open space to serve two purposes, that of an all-day cafe and a late-night watering hole. Mash's bar features a vintage refrigerator and old-school jukebox (and yes, it works). While over on the Mercantile side a more day-time friendly look of white tile makes up the chef counter. We've been told an indoor bocce court and 1980s arcade games will also be coming in soon. Mercantile and Mash will each have their own menus created by Executive Chef Trey Dutton.

Callie Wamsley of Reynolds Group PR tells us Mercantile will be stocked with products like Middleton Made Knives, Le Creuset kitchen products, Yeti coolers, Cutting Boredom Cutting boards, and Bourbon Barrel foods.

Each space will feature its own menu and hours. Mercantile will be open daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mash will be open Mon.-Fri., 4 p.m.-2 a.m., Sat. 3 p.m.-2 a.m., and Sun. 2 p.m.-2 a.m.
