Yesterday we were all about cat cafes, today we're talking suds and duds — Charleston finally has what amounts to a laundrobar. Persimmon Cafe, the sandwich shop located inside College Laundry at 226 Calhoun St., will begin serving beer and wine on Oct. 5.

Bringing the sip and soak idea to the peninsula has been a long time coming. Back in 2009, Jason Cronen and Billy Pope had plans to transform a former church on St. Philip St. into Dirty Laundry, a cafe/bar/laundromat, but the project was a wash. Luckily, for those without a washer and dryer, Persimmon picked up where Dirty Laundry left off offering food inside a laundromat and now alcohol joins its menu of gooey adult grilled cheeses and flambé custards.

To kick off the libation launch, Persimmon is offering a special date night deal. On Oct. 5 from 4-9 p.m., a $20 special will get you two drinks, two sides, two sandwiches, and one custard to share.
