Just in time for Thanksgiving, Edmund's Oast is offering hot bourbon and gravy shots

Yes, this is real

You know that lump you get in the back of your throat when the Olympic opening ceremonies are on TV and suddenly, clad in their red, white, and blue Ralph Lauren jumpsuits, team U.S. enters the stadium? That's sort of how Edmund's Oast's $4 hot bourbon and gravy shot tastes, like the American dream.

The brainchild of Edmund's Oast's co-owner Scott Shor, this holiday mashup is available tonight and possibly tomorrow if the restaurant has enough gravy to go around.

"Scott came up with the idea and I was tasked with making it," says Jayce McConnell, Edmund's bartender. Yesterday, a turkey was procured to make the proper gravy. Then today it was merely a matter of allowing McConnell enough time to dabble with his recipe.

"The rim features fresh herbs like thyme and tarragon, lemon zest, and brown sugar for a kick," says McConnell. The bartender blended Evan Williams White Label Bottled-in-Bond with the turkey drippings to make the hot beverage, and it is something to behold.

Savory with a sweet bite, it's certainly what our founding fathers had in mind when they spoke of securing the blessings of liberty for ourselves and our posterity. For what could better provide for the nation's general welfare than a shot that is a blend of the only sauce that truly brings this country together for one day with the most American of spirits?

Go get one tonight while you can, but don't say I didn't warn you when you get the sudden urge to sing "God Bless the USA."
