We confess, our inaugural Charleston Burger Week cover story was partly a selfish idea. The truth is we love burgers and this city has more good ones than you can shake a ketchup bottle at, so we couldn't pass up an opportunity to wax poetic about them. But if you read the fine print on those burger deals offered at participating restaurants around town, you saw that part of the effort was to give back. Today we're happy to report that thanks to all of your Charleston Burger Week purchases, $5,150 was raised to help support Feed the Need
The nonprofit organization, founded by Charleston Grill General Manager Mickey Bakst, helps provide meals at area soup kitchens and shelters, and with assistance from the money raised from Charleston Burger Week, Feed the Need, in addition to Charleston Place and Charleston Grill, will help Tricounty Family Ministries
feed 1,500-plus people at their annual Client Christmas Brunch on Mon. Dec. 21.
But the hungry individuals attending the Christmas Brunch need more than a warm meal. Guests of all ages could use coats, and Tricounty Family ministries is also asking for toy donations to make the children's Christmas a little brighter as well.
"We expect 1,100 children to attend," says Tricounty's chief operating officer Mary Howell. "And somehow every year we manage to have a toy for each of them."
But a toy for every child doesn't happen by magic. Tricounty needs the community's help. To do so City Paper
and Tricounty Family Ministries have organized 13 donation drop-off points around the city. Visit one of the below locations to drop off new and unwrapped toys and new or gently used coats by Wed. Dec. 16 and Tricounty Family Ministries will make sure the items are handed out the day of the brunch.
