Sermet Aslan, owner of Sermet's Courtyard
on Daniel Island, confirms that he and managing partner Engin Suner are the new owners of Heart Woodfire Kitchen on James Island.
The Turkish chef and artist
just bought the James Island building at 1622 Highland Ave. and he plans to reopen it as Sermet's Southernterranean Cuisine-Bar.
Aslan plans to have jazz and use the outside space as well as add his signature eccentricity to the internal design.
Brett Crowley, Sermet's D.I. chef, will run the new kitchen while Brett's brother Casey will take over the Daniel Island location. Aslan says guests can expect dishes like braised collard green risotto with bacon and gouda as well as striped bass preserved in lemon with a honey emulsion.
