Sicilian chef Bonetta dell'Oglio in Charleston this weekend

The Nuovo Cinema Italiano Film Festival hosts Sicilian chef Bonetta dell'Oglio for two meals this weekend. The first will be held at Mercantile and Mash on Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are $150 per diner and include six courses and wine. The second, a brunch at Wild Olive, will be held on Sun. April 10 at noon. Tickets are $45 and include three courses, with coffee, tea and sodas. Proceeds from both events benefit the tenth annual Nuovo Cinema Italiano film festival.

Guests at Friday's dinner can look forward to dishes like beccafico sardines; lasagne with mussels, clams, and shrimp in lemon parfumes; lamb belly and neck with charred onion, asparagus, and black garlic jus; and lemon curd with rhubarb, raspberry, and burnt meringue. 

Chef Bonetta dell'Oglio is the former owner of La Dispensa dei Monsu, a restaurant in Palermo, Italy. In 2012 dell'Oglio closed up shop to travel the world, serving as an ambassador of Italian food. On her website dell'Oglio describes her food as elemental adding "I want to eat the truth." In vino veritas, ya know? 

Nuovo Cinema Italiano celebrates its 10th film festival this year, held on Oct. 6-9. Since 2006 the festival has shown what it considers to be the best in contemporary Italian cinema. Stay tuned for a lineup of films.
