If you like your burger luxe, we're talking topped in foie gras and black truffles, Sean Mendes has something for you. Mendes, the mastermind behind Roadside Seafood's wildly popular fried shrimp, has entered the burger game with his new location, Blues Burger Joint which opened this week.

Mendes purchased Island Bar & Grill (815 Folly Road) back in April and has since transformed the space into what he hopes will be a burger destination. The hook? Blues will serve food until 2 a.m., something few places on James Island, according to our research, do. "We'll do last call for food at 1:15 a.m. and last call for alcohol at 1:30," he says. 

Another lure? Live music, blues as the name suggests. Mendes is working with a booker to get blues bands that will perform at least three times a week. And, lest he start a riot, he's keeping the karaoke schedule that Island Bar & Grill regulars loved. "I couldn’t get rid of the karaoke. They’d kill me," he says.  

In addition to hefty burgers like his Burn Burger topped with a medley of onions, pepper jack cheese, and jalapeño, banana, and habanero peppers, Blues Burger Joint will also serve a gator dog made from alligator sausage and a variety of specials.

"Being the blues are from the Mississippi Delta, you’ve got to have your Cajun and Creole influences. I'm gonna run some specials, I’ll do an oyster, shrimp and crawfish special on grits," he says.

Mon. Aug. 1 is Blues Burger Joint's official grand opening. The restaurant will be open daily, 11 a.m. until 2 a.m.
