Rodney Scott is one of five pit masters participating in CBWS' BBQ Invitational
If the news of pit master Rodney Scott's new Charleston location
has you craving some of his whole hog, great news. You don't have to wait until winter when his King Street location opens or make the trek to his Hemingway headquarters to get a bite. On Sun. Oct. 2, Charleston Brown Water Society will host its third annual BBQ Invitational.
This year the hoedown takes place at the Rifle Club (2221 Heriot St.) and will feature five big time pit masters — Sam Jones from Skylight Inn
, Anthony DiBernardo from Swig and Swine, Bryan Furman from B's Cracklin'
, Wayne Mueller of Mueller’s BBQ
in Taylor, Texas, and, of course, Rodney Scott of Scott's Bar-B-Que
CBWS member and CP
contributor Robert Donovan says, "Virgil Kane, Jefferson's Reserve, Corsair, and Smooth Ambler will be pouring whiskey and Holy City and Revelry will be pouring beer." The BBQ Invitational will also have a members only tent where John Lewis of Lewis Barbecue will be serving food and a live band will play to pump up the party atmosphere.
While the first two years were smaller efforts, this year CBWS hopes to have 500 people in attendance. Early bird tickets are on sale now and cost $30. After Sept. 18, the price goes up to $40. To purchase a ticket, click here
