After closing The 'Wich Doctor for two months following a medical crisis, Jeff Butler's Folly restaurant will reopen today.
"I'm a little winded," Butler said when we called him before service. "But I'm working on some udon soup."

Butler closed The 'Wich Doctor in December after fighting complications from heart surgery last year including staph infection, brain swelling, and compromised kidney and liver function. But thanks to treatment and a groundswell of support from the F&B community to help him pay his medical bills, including pop-ups and specials from 2Nixons and Butcher & Bee, in addition to an ongoing GoFundMe
effort to raise $20,000, Butler is back in the kitchen at his Folly Beach restaurant.
"We're going to try to pull off brunch this week," he said already sounding a bit exhausted. Butler got back in the kitchen three days ago to begin prep and even that bit of work has taken a toll on his recovering body. But he was in good spirits with the lunch rush just an hour away.
Now back on his feet, Butler says The 'Wich Doctor will return to its regular hours — noon to 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Mon.-Sat., and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sundays — but he won't roll out any specials until he regains his strength.
Welcome him back to 106 West Hudson St. today starting at noon.
