Reality TV antics aside, (read up on the genesis of Madison's bourbon venture and how he brought would-be business partner Craig Canover to tears at a tasting) the renovated Sermet's space promises to honor Gullah cuisine under the helm of chef Marvin Woods.

We talked to Woods last week about the focus of the Gentry's menu, and he assured us that with the help of one of the Lowcountry's most important Gullah chefs, Charlotte Jenkins, Gullah flavors will be at the forefront of the restaurant. "I wrote a book on Lowcountry cooking and I thought I knew a bit," says Woods. "But I'm not fourth and fifth generation. Charlotte knows it all. It's not just the cooking aspect or her palate, it's all that wisdom."

In addition to the Gullah fare, the restaurant will offer an extensive whiskey and craft cocktail program. Gentry will be open daily for lunch 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., happy hour 4 to 7 p.m., and dinner will be served Sun.-Weds. 5 to 11 p.m. and Thurs.-Sat. 5 p.m. to 12 a.m. They will also serve brunch Sat. and Sun. from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
