Let me pre-empt this post by saying, yes, I agree, $175 per person for dinner is outrageous. That said, if you want to eat the food of some of this city's (and beyond) culinary leaders all in one night, you might find the James Beard Foundation Celebrity Chef Tour Dinner be worth the price.

The dinner will take place Sept. 21 at Lowndes Grove Plantation. The meal will be focused on Southern ingredients, including desserts and drinks. Proceeds from the evening will benefit the James Beard Foundation.
