Taco bout a reason to celebrate

Sure, national food holidays are really just a glorified excuse to indulge in some of our favorite food groups, but that doesn't mean we won't celebrate the hell out of them. Taco Tuesdays are definitely a thing, but Taco Thursday sounds pretty good too.

And don't forget about Eric Doksa's documentation of the infamous 2017 Taco Crawl through North Charleston.

Here's where to get your fix around town in honor of National Taco Day:

Specials around town

Mex 1 has $3 tacos all day at both locations. There will also be several old fan favorites reincarnated like their Nashville Chicken Taco.

From 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday Taco Boy is donating $1 from every taco sold to Hurricane Florence relief. "We thought there was no better way to celebrate National Taco Day than by donating a portion of proceeds to those who need it most right now in North and South Carolina," said Taco Boy co-owner Karalee Fallert in a press release.

Taco Thursday is already a thing at Elliotborough Mini Bar get $3 tacos of the "Gringo" or "Street" variety.

We here at the City Paper are especially partial to Torres Superettes tacos (they're right down the street, uber cheap, and tasty AF) but some other fave tacos around town are:

Semilla's carnitas served up on those warm corn tortillas; the sautéed shrimp tacos and tempura avocado tacos from Taco Boy (with an extra side of Thai chili sauce); and Rebel Taqueria's (now conveniently stationed at Workshop) vegan tacos with that gorgeous beet puree.

And food critic Vanessa Wolf writes of burgeoning Mexican chain Cantina 76 "what likely led to Cantina 76's success are their 14 novelty tacos." Wolf's top two contenders are the Peruvian shrimp with mayo-based sweet sesame chili sauce and citrusy slaw and the chicken teriyaki with pan-seared chicken, grilled onions, and feta cheese.
