The poster child for Lowcountry cuisine, the revered dish of shrimp and grits has always had the potential to be totally blasé. And yet the demand keeps on coming; there must be something about the unlikely plate mates — plump fruits de mer and creamy/grainy fruits de farmer. In any case, the RiverDogs are ready to celebrate all iterations of the famed combo Sat. Nov. 10. at Joe Riley Stadium.

From noon to 3 p.m. indulge in steaming bowls of shrimp and grits from area restaurants including Smoky Oak, Toast, Morgan Creek Grill, Roadside Seafood, Saltwater Cowboys, Bubba Gump, and Wando River Grill. All participating establishments compete for People's Choice Award, Judge's Choice Award, and a $500 grand prize. Regular folk who know their way around a shrimp and a grit can contact the 'Dogs about entering the contest to go head-to-head with the big guys.

Wash down all that gritty goodness with a cash bar hawking the requisite brunch pairings, Bloody Marys and mimosas. Blue Plantation Band provides entertainment, and there will be a Vendor Village and Kids' Zone to make everyone happy.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the box office for $20 in advance, $25 day-of; a general admission ticket includes a shrimp and grits sample. There will also be a few VIP tickets available for $40, which guarantees attendees oysters and a private VIP area so you can feast in peace.
