The 8th annual Taste of Black Charleston features more than 20 area chefs

Taking place at the S.C. Aquarium on Fri. March 8 from 7:30 to 11 p.m., the eighth annual Taste of Black Charleston features local chefs serving both savory and sweet dishes. General admission tickets are $85, and Friends of the Taste tickets (two tickets plus names printed in the official Taste program) are $250.

Participants include La Tasha Mac, Britney Williams, Jonte Griggs, Daniel Middleton, Krystal Gibbs, Roxanne Melville, Tavoya Alford, Emmaretta Lloyd, Shaquana Rivera, Dominik Toomer, Cheryl Ann Gibbs-Green, Victoria Robinson, Vernon Pinckney, Jasmine Steadman, Faith Alston, NaPrell Van Buren, Armani and Amaya Jefferson, Mekio Goodson, Rainee Kearney, and Felicia Simon. Savory offerings include Chef La Tasha Mac's blue cornmeal crusted flounder over loaded pimento cheese Geechie Boy grits with stewed collards and heirloom tomatoes served with sweet corn muffins and bacon jam; Gourmet turkey and beef burgers from Charleston Gourmet Burger; and seafood gumbo with jasmine rice, honey cornbread, and truffle gnocchi mac and cheese from Krystal's private events.

If you've got more of a sweet tooth you can look forward to dishes like mini funnel cake cheesecake from Brooklyn's Blissful Bites; bundt cake from Jus a Mor'sel; and Rainee's sweet potato cupcakes and bourbon banana pudding from Sweet Treats by Rainee, LLC.
Taste of Black Charleston is a companion event to the Black Expo economic empowerment summit, taking place at the Charleston Area Convention Center this weekend.
