If you've (we're looking at you, fellow Johns Islanders who get trapped on Maybank before 9 a.m. and after 4 p.m.) been wondering what the hell is going into 1803 Crowne Commons Way on Johns Island, you're not alone.
The new development
off the main drag will be home to several new businesses, including a breakfast and lunch spot, KISS Cafe. Co-owner Leslie Mastranunzio says the name is a call back to her wedding vows with business partner and cafe chef, Tim — "Keep it simple sweetheart."
The restaurant's motto, is, accordingly, "keeping it simple and sunny side up on Johns Island."
Chef Tim, who has been in the F&B industry for more than two decades, working in NYC and Charlotte, will be whipping up brekkie Tues.-Sun. starting at 7 a.m. Expect classic items (check the gram
for highlights) like mimosas, bloodys, and BECs, plus specialty items like homemade corned beef hash. For lunch (which will be served until their 3 p.m. closing), Leslie says they'll have a specialty ramen bowl, and will "source locally as much as possible, with seasonal specials every day."
The full service restaurant will offer a basic caffeine menu, with drip coffee plus a few espresso drinks, in addition to the morning libations and beer and wine. There will be an outside patio seating about 24 guests, and inside Leslie says they'll have around 40 seats. They'll also have a grab-and-go counter for busy islanders (praise!)
With Baker & the Farmer permanently closed, and Sunrise Bistro essentially the only weekday breakfast game in town, we expect KISS Cafe will be packed with egg-seeking locals lickety split.
