These Charleston bars and restaurants are offering freebies and discounts for teachers on Wednesday

A group of South Carolina teachers has organized a march at the S.C. Statehouse, tomorrow, May 1, to advocate for educational reform. As CP columnist (and former educator) Jake Rambo writes, thousands of teachers are protesting their low pay, lack of discipline support, and ill treatment.

"Teachers have tried many other means, before organizing this event. They have been contacting legislators, speaking at meetings, and educating the public. But after promising big reforms, our state legislature once again failed to deliver. So, teachers are hopeful that #AllOutMay1 will be a catalyst for change," writes Rambo.

Once those teachers return to Charleston from Columbia, local restaurants want to greet them with deals. Here's who's participating:

Rusty Bull Brewing Co. says that teachers can come in for one free beer tomorrow (valid with teacher ID). Chucktown Axe Throwing will also be on deck, offering a special rate for "frustration relief."

Edmund's Oast Brewing Co., Edmund's Oast, and Edmund's Oast Exchange will be offering a free glass of house beer or wine starting at 5 p.m. tomorrow (valid with ID).

Graze Mt. Pleasant wants to make any public school employee dinner tomorrow night. As they say, "We thank you for your hard work and dedication to our children’s education and want to take one thing off your plate (or literally put one thing on your plate) for that day." Revelry Brewing jumps on board the free beer train, offering one free beer for every teacher on May 1, 4-10 p.m.

Pounce Cat Cafe is offering $5 hour-long sessions for teachers with their kitties today through Thursday. That's some purrfect stress relief, teachers. (And you can always snag a glass of wine at Pounce!)

Frothy Beard Brewing Co. will be giving teachers 20 percent off their purchase on May 1.
