This Saturday, Jan. 10, local musical combo Sol Driven Train celebrates the official release a collection of tunes at the Creative Spark Center for the Arts (757 Long Point Road, 843-881-3780). The latest is titled Tajar Tracks II. It’s a follow-up to the 2008’s 10-song collection Lighthouse. Sol Driven Train recorded the first Tajar Tracks collection while working with a few dozen teenagers at the Blue Ridge venue Camp Gwynn Valley in Brevard, N.C. over the summer of 2005. They thank the camp in the liner notes of the new 13-song disc “for the use of the Lodge and Cabin Aching legs … and everyone who encouraged us to continue playing music for children.”
The new music includes original, family-friendly tunes featuring vocal performances from camp kids, guest Charleston musicians and DJs (Cary Ann Hearst, DJ Kurfu, Noodle McDoodle, Eden Fonvielle, Roger Bellow, and many others), and piano work from longtime camp staffer Debbie Debord. The cover art features a painting by Kinsey Bluestein.
The “CD Release Party” starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Admission is $7 per kid (with accompanying adult) at the door.
