Last Sunday evening (Feb. 8), I drove out to Fiery Ron’s Home Team BBQ in West Ashley to check out the Lowcountry Blues Bash’s All-Star Blues Jam & Oyster Roast. By early evening, the place was already packed — from the front courtyard and patio across the main music hall and through the backyard area.
I caught the end of a pretty smokin’ set on from drummer John Picard, bassist/keyboardist Whitt Algar, keyboardist Jon Hager, singer Tim Davis, and guitarists Tommy Thunderfoot, Jeff Norwood, Dr. Rev. Johnny Mac, “Stone Cold” Sarah Cole … it was a crowded stage, but the sound was good, the crowd was into it, and the players genuinely looked psyched to be trading licks and cues (see gallery below).
Two cans of PBR into the night, I started clicking snapshots and shooting a bit of video footage — some in the front patio (where I encountered Norwood and sound guy/booking man Tony McKie) and a lot in the main room, where S.C. legend Drink Small jammed with backing from Algar and Picard. One of the shots ended up in this week’s Scene, and some of the footage was carefully edited by our video wiz Kyle Hilliard and posted here. Cheers to that!
