The Dubplates got the riddim widdim

The Dubplates
The funky cats from the Dubplates — a local reggae/dancehall/groove ensemble led by the fellas of the Dub Island Sound System — will have a busy weekend in East Cooper.

On Sat. Nov. 6, they perform several afternoon sets during the Mt. Pleasant Beer Fest at the Mt. Pleasant Mellow Mushroom (3110 Hwy. 17). Held in the lot adjacent to the eatery, the party will feature craft beers from more than 20 local and national craft breweries. Advance tickets are available for $20 (they’re $25 at the gate). Proceeds benefit the Windwood Farm Home for Children.

On Sun. Nov. 7, the band sets up on the deck in the Muddy’s Creekside Bar section at the Mt. P Vickery’s (at 1313 Shrimpboat Lane on Shem Creek) for the fourth annual Reggae on the Creek event, hosted by the Tanzanian Education Foundation. They share the stage with the Dream Merchants Youth Reggae Band. Donations of $5 are requested at the gate. Proceeds will go towards providing educational scholarships to the children of Meru View Day School in Arusha.
