Awendaw Green Music Festival shapes up

Two days of live music on the way

A few weeks ago, it sounded like East Cooper venue Awendaw Green was going to do a third annual Rocktoberfest two months late, but things are taking shape nicely under the updated name of Awendaw Music Festival.

Last year, the mostly local fest took place in big fields behind the Sewee Outpost (4853 Hwy. 17). This year, more than 60 acts will perform on four stages over two days — Dec. 4-5.

“Two center stages will rotate 45-minute sets, allowing continuous music from noon to 10 p.m. each day,” says organizer Eddie White. “The Dance Stage will highlight an assortment of grooving and growing acts. The Singer/Songwriter Stage, at the stage normally used for Barn Jams, will feature ‘in-the-round’ performances and an intimate level of connectivity amongst individual performers and their audience.”

Performers include Steven Fiore, Gaslight Street, James Justin & Co, Mark Bryan, the Shrimp Record Family Band, Slow Runner, Mac Leaphart and My Ragged Company, the Hawkes, the Tips, John Wesley Satterfield and his Damn Fine Band, Ryan Bonner and the Dearly Beloved, the Bushels, Lindsay Holler's Western Polaroids, the Casual Kings, Firework Show, Deepwater Soul Society, Megan Jean and the KFB, the Freeloaders, Torture Town, Po’Ridge, Steel Petals, the Danielle Howle Band, Josh Roberts, Doug Jones, and others to be announced.

Advance tickets for the festival will be available this week for $15 per day or for $25 for a weekend pass. Student discounts are available as well. Food and beer will be provided by the Seewee Restaurant and Palmetto Brewery (no coolers allowed). Proceeds will benefit the Wando High School Band Program, the American Red Cross, Toys for Tots, and other local charities.
