Celebrating its 21th year, the annual Lowcountry Blues Bash offers a pile of soul, blues, boogie, and roots music across town in early February. Presented by Erwin Music and the Lowcountry Blues Society and organized by veteran local musician Gary Erwin — best known as the piano-playing Shrimp City Slim — the festival runs from Feb. 3-13.

This year’s lineup features more than 40 acts playing in 20 clubs and restaurants across the Charleston area. Showcasing the diversity within the blues is the heart of the festival.

Erwin calls the festival a “metro-wide blues venue crawl with blues day and night.” Many of the artists are scheduled to perform multiple shows at different venues. Some of the featured blues cats include Robin Trower, Drink Small, Big Bill Morganfield, Doug Deming and the Jeweltones, Randy McAllister, Ike and Val Woods, the Burnside Exploration, Lefty Williams, Matt Hill, and Mac Arnold.

Dozens of local blues and roots acts are on the schedule as well. On Sat. Feb. 5, the popular Allstar Blues Jam & Oyster Roast at Home Team BBQ in West Ashley will feature a set from Big Bill Morganfield with local trio the Tips, emcee Tommy Thunderfoot, and a gallery of cats from the Lowcountry Blues Club.
