California-based electronica act STS9 had big tour plans set to support their recent studio effort Ad Explorata and live disc Axe the Cables, but they had to cancel most of the February and March shows — including a gig scheduled at the Music Farm on Tues. March 1 — due to illness.

“Our brother, friend, and bass player David Murphy will begin undergoing timely and necessary cancer treatment,” read an announcement from the band. Murphy was recently diagnosed with a cancerous tumor primarily in his sinus cavity. It requires extensive surgery followed by a couple months of recovery. “There is nothing more in the world I love then playing music and sharing it with all of you, and we will continue to do it for a long time together,” says Murphy.

The band plans to hit the road after a concert in their old hometown of Athens, Ga., at the Classic Center on April 20. They’ll be part of the Bonnaroo 2011 festival as well.
