The Jazz Artists of Charleston’s Upstairs at McCrady’s series at 2 Unity Alley is on a roll.

On May 31, the fourth annual Holy City Homecomin’ featured a program of original tunes penned by a variety of local songwriters. The house rhythm section included Nathan Koci (piano), Kevin Hamilton (bass), and Ron Wiltrout (drums). Featured songwriters included Bill Carson, Cary Ann Hearst, Michael Trent, Joel Hamilton, Lindsay Holler, and Michael Flynn. There are two shows, one at 7 p.m. and one at 10 p.m.

This week’s lineup features trombonist Mike Gennaro and his swing ensemble on Wed. June 1, sax player Simon Harding and his combo Minor Gravity on Thurs. June 2, Asheville-based keyboardist Michael Bellar’s As-Is Ensemble on Sat. June 4, pianist Fernando Rivas’ Latin-tinged band Tumbao on Sun. June 5, sax players Robert Lewis and Mark Sterbank with Tenor Madness on Mon. June 6, and singer/guitarist Duda Lucena’s quartet on Tues. June 7.

The Upstairs at McCrady’s series continues through Fri. June 10. Most events feature sets at 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Advance tickets to all Upstairs at McCrady’s events are available through the JAC box office.
