In celebration of the City Paper's new Music Issue, we'll be presenting the first-ever City Paper Music Awards this evening (Oct. 19) at the Pour House with a rapid-fire award ceremony. Winners in 21 musical categories will receive special plaques created by local artist John Pundt. Expect a few animated acceptance speeches from winners or their representatives.
Also on the bill are five winning acts, each set to play one song on stage. Starting around 7 p.m., look for brief performances from Old You, Sarah Cole and the Hawkes, Elise Testone and the Freeloaders, Dangermuffin, and Charlton Singleton and a sizeable backing troupe. The "house band" will feature local musicians Alan Brisendine (of nominated act Outervention) and Doug Walters (of nominated act Torture Town).
Official sponsors of the CPMAs include Charleston Sound, Firefly Vodka (providing official liquor of the CPMAs), Westbrook Brewing Company (the official beer of the CPMAs), Encore Music, Iron Lotus Tattoo Studios, and Mount Pleasant Music.
The awards show runs from 7-9:30 p.m. Jonathan Tyler and Northern Lights and the Happen-Ins for a late-evening show that starts at 10 p.m. CPMA attendees can stick around for the show for $7.
