Tonight: Hip-hop artist Benjamin Starr launches 'Free Lunch'

Lowcountry hip-hop artist Benjamin Starr released his latest album, Free Lunch, this week on iTunes and Bandcamp and at The 15-song digital collection dropped on Juneteenth — the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of U.S. slavery.

“It was probably destined, and likely important, for me to release the project on Juneteenth,” the 27-year-old emcee says. “This is a significant part of Black History that is not taught in schools…as it relates to our fight for freedom in this day and age.”

The Free Lunch release show is tonight at King Dusko at 7 p.m.-12 a.m. Fittingly, the gig time directly follows the 6 p.m. March for Black Lives that will honor the liv

“There is another awakening going on within the black community,” he says.  “And this album articulates shared experiences of mine and my community.”
