Fresh off of announcing an indefinite hiatus to their nonstop touring, Southern jam band Widespread Panic performed a packed set Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Though the band announced that they would cease perpetual touring, they promise to continue to play large festivals and venues — so the show on Friday night could have been the last Charleston stop for the foreseeable future.

With the music of Prince filling the coliseum prior to the show, many thought the band might cover a song from the fallen music icon, but the nod went to the pre-show and set-break music only.

The boys opened up with "Steven’s Cat," a track off their latest album Street Dogs. It wasn’t until Panic busted into "Lil’Kin" from Ain’t Life Grand that the crowd seemed to get in the groove. The first set kept the fans guessing with hard-rocking tunes, like "Thought Sausage," the classic Robert Johnson song "Stop Breaking Down," and a cover of Bill Withers’ funk anthem "Use Me." There were also calming moments with Jo Jo’s piano ballad in "This Part of Town" and a mellow "Her Dance Needs No Body."

The second set breathed energy into the venue as the long-time rockers got down to business. Classic concert favorites like "Makes Sense to Me, Jack" and the Meter’s dark "It Ain't No Use" lent themselves to lots of boogie from the Spreadheads.

Drum and bass breakdowns from Duane Trucks gave the masses time to rest up, but the ensemble finished strong by rolling "Papa Legba" out, followed by a classic
"Pilgrims."

Panic closed out set two with the popular cover from Tom Waits: "Going Out West." The guessing game was played for the encore, and there was no disappointment. The fans were treated with "Driving Song">"Disco">"Driving Song," followed by a Panic-treated version of Bob Dylan’s "Fixin’ to Die."
