Now in its second year, Charleston’s first music conference New Music Confab is back for more this summer with another weekend of showcases and panels that will run Thurs. Aug. 25 to Sat. Aug.27.
“My goal with New Music Confab is to re-create the feel of the early years of South By Southwest, bringing music-industry leaders together for a music discovery experience in an amazing town,” says founder Dave Stewart. “Three nights in Charleston — how bad can it be?”
Over 500 artists and music-industry professionals from around the country attended last year’s inaugural conference, which included 10 discussion panels and five showcases featuring 30 new country, alt, rock, and Americana acts.
This year, New Music Confab returns to the Charleston Music Hall and the Music Farm, and the Royal American has been added as a new venue.
The conference will accept applications for performers until Wed. June 1. Already, Stewart says he's received entries from over 1,500 artists both near and as far away as Denmark, Australia, and France. To apply, go here.
All-access badges for the weekend are $75-$125 ($50 for students).
