Words escape me this morning.
Here's what South Carolina's leading politicians had to say about the death of Osama bin Laden.
I was pleased to receive a phone call from Vice President Biden informing me of the news that Osama Bin Laden had been killed by U.S. Forces. I relayed to the Vice President my congratulations on this historic day. Events such as this do not happen accidently and require great personal sacrifice and courage. God bless those who put themselves in harm’s way to bring about this long-overdue day of justice.
With the death of Osama Bin Laden and impending trial of Khalid Sheik Mohammad, I hope the victims of 9/11 will receive some closure and believe justice is being served. This day has been long-awaited by our nation and all those who reject terrorism. This event by no means ends our fight against Al Qaeda, but it is a decisive moment helping create momentum for our cause throughout the world.
With the death of Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda will do everything possible to take revenge. That’s why it is important we stay on the offensive and remain ever-vigilant in our fight against terrorism.
It should be clearly understood that there is no safe hiding spot for those who harm the American people. Those who act against our nation will be relentlessly pursued and they will be brought to justice. Today’s announcement has been a long time coming and like all Americans, I’m very glad justice has been served.
“The death of Osama bin Laden at the hands of American forces is not only a great victory in the War on Terror, but confirmation to freedom’s enemies around the world about the inevitable end of a life of terror.
“Like all Americans, my thoughts and prayers tonight go out to the families of the thousands of people who have been murdered by bin Laden and his Al Qaeda accomplices, both in the terror plots he orchestrated and the ongoing war he started.
“I offer my heartfelt thanks to everyone responsible for tonight’s news: our courageous armed forces, dedicated law enforcement and intelligence communities, and President Obama for pursuing the necessary policies to bring about today’s success.”
"This is a great day for America and a tremendous victory in the global war on terror. Justice has been served. Congratulations to President Obama, the intelligence community, the team who conducted the successful operation and the thousands of men and women in uniform who have fought over the last decade in the war against al Qaeda and its affiliates."
"Justice has been served. While this does not mean the War on Terror is over, it is positive news and a great credit to the men and women fighting our enemies, day in and day out."
Not surprisingly, the conspiracy theorists have already pounced.
Most notably, Alex Jones and Infowars. The headline says it all: Government Had Osama bin Laden Frozen for Years. Oddly enough, the article in question doesn't address this so-called fact.
The Freepers are also going strong, over at the Free Republic.
I can't put my finger on what it may be. Why come out with the Bin Laden news now? To cover up the birth certificate flap? What is the Bin Laden story providing cover for? I think he was killed in Tora Bora two years ago, if so, something is definitely up.
Speaking of silliness, here's one of my favorite clips from Bruno. Ding dong the Dirty Wizard is Dead.
