Skype: It’s not just for conversations with your easily amused parents or faraway best friends anymore. At the South Carolina Film Commission’s upcoming workshop, they'll use Skype to hold discussions with international filmmakers.

Called Best of INPUT, its focus is on public broadcasting programs, and it will feature important films that have shown on public television around the world, followed by talks with their directors or producers. By press date, the schedule was tentative, but it included filmmakers from Japan, Denmark, Bosnia and Herzogovina, the United Kingdom, and even the good ole U.S. of A.

The day will wrap up with locals Cara White (of CaraMar Publicity) and Amy Shumaker (executive producer of content for ETV), who will discuss how producers get programming on public television.

The workshop will take place in Columbia on Oct. 7 and in Charleston on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Trident Technical College’s main campus (the Nursing Auditorium, Room 791, 920 Building).
