Downtown Charleston's America Street sets the scene for writer and director Travis Pearson's film of the same name, which premiered last night to a sold-out Terrace Theater. America Street
focuses on Bucks, played by Jason West, a mute man who was just released from prison only to find out he has a son.
According to NBC's News 2, Pearson was inspired by Michelle Alexander's book The New Jim Crow.
Alexander wanted to highlight the mass incarceration of African-American males.
will also screen in New York, L.A., and Paris. But Pearson also hopes to show the film at the Terrace again soon. For more information, visit the film's Facebook page.
