Berkeley County voters are going to the polls today. The big question is which voters?
We got an e-mail last week from a Dem strategist, quoting an e-mail he said was sent to Republicans by GOP candidate's Paul Campbell's camp:
TUESDAY IS THE ELECTION. WHAT ARE THE DEMOCRATS DOING WITH THEIR $100,000?
ATTENTION, REPUBLICAN VOTERS: BEWARE OF THE DEMOCRATS' $100,000
According to official campaign spending records, the Democrats will spend over $100,000 before the election to try to take our Senate Seat away. It is critical that all Republican supporters go to the polls on Tuesday to make sure the Democrats' "sneak attack" strategy is unsuccessful.
What could those devious Democrats do with $100,000?
On election day, watch for the Democrats to use their $100,000 to pay drivers hauling van-loads of Democrat voters to the polls. Their strategy is simple: "Hide" their candidate to make Republican voters forget about the election, then quietly haul van-loads of Democrat voters to the polls on election day.
Gee. Of all the underhanded things to do to win an election, I would say that driving registered voters to the polls is about as un-underhanded as you can get. But they do make one good point. John Smith's signs don't mention him being a Democrat. But it will be plainly obvious to voters once they see the ballot.
Then there's the minor mix-up in the Post and Courier on Sunday, where there was a reference to Tuesday's Republican Primary. Fear not, the P&C isn't trying to keep Dems from the poll. The first words in the attached story are "Democrat John West" and the paper even endorsed West as "one of the most impressive candidates we've encountered."
