State legislators have started submitting bills in advance of the session beginning in January and we'll be spotlighting a few over the coming weeks. One of the stranger ones introduced yesterday is "Second Amendment Weekend."
The bill would name the weekend after Thanksgiving as "Second Amendment Weekend." Heading beyond the ceremonial gun-shaped cakes, Kevlar wrapping paper, and uzi pinatas, the legislation would exempt taxes on firearms for the weekend. Because that's what's missing — an incentive to own guns. The bill was introduced by Rep. Michael Pitts of Laurens.
