First term incumbent Mike Sottile will see a rematch from 2008 primary opponent Joe Bustos.
Sottile announced his plans to run for reelection earlier this week.
"We do have a problem in state government," Sottile said in a statement. "We have too many politicians who have lost touch with the taxpayers and they concentrate on Columbia special interests instead of cutting taxes, reining in spending, and creating jobs."
Bustos says that Sottile is already a part of the problem.
“We need to make sure our representative to the State House is part of the solution," Bustos said in a statement.
The race in 2008 was closely watched, with Bustos as a popular Mt. Pleasant councilman and Sottile the mayor of Isle of Palms. In the end, it came down to turnout.
This time, Bustos will be facing an incumbent and the Statehouse support that goes with it. What the challenger is betting on is a general voter distaste for incumbents.
