Gov. Mark Sanford is meeting today with his cabinet heads and he's doing a quick victory lap, asking each of them to highlight spending and efficiency reforms over the last eight years. Former Sanford staffer and current political blogger Will Folks noted the hastily scheduled event.
Reports out late yesterday from the Associated Press and other news outlets revealed why we're cutting the farewell cake a month early: because December is going to be hell. Namely a $228 million Medicaid deficit, a $47 million Social Services deficit, and a fear that more bad news is around the corner.
"This is going to spread like fire on gasoline if these agencies just think they can parade into the Budget and Control Board and get additional money," (Senate President Glenn) McConnell said.
