Chad Connelly, president of the S.C. Republican Party, has announced that Myrtle Beach will host a GOP primary debate on Jan. 16, 2012, just five days before the state's presidential primary. The debate will air on Fox News.
"South Carolina Republicans pick presidents," Connelly said in a press release. And he's right. The Palmetto State holds the first presidential primary in the South, and the state's choice has won the Republican nomination in every election since 1980.
Fun fact: In a poll last month, 32 percent of South Carolina Republicans and Republican-leaning independents said it was more important to pick a nominee who could beat Obama than a nominee whose beliefs matched their own.
