From editor Stephanie Barna:
As we get show reviews in from our critics, I'll be linking to them with a post here on the blog. Our writers will be attending almost every opening-night show and turning in reviews the next morning, and I'll be uploading them as soon as they're ready. So, be sure to check in often. This weekend promises to be the busiest one of the festival.
This week, Nick Smith checked out some of Piccolo's big visual arts exhibits, several of which opened on Sat. May 20. He found Willliam McCullough's retrospective at the City Gallery at Waterfront Park to be an impressive warts-and-all chronicle of an artist and his work. Eva Carter's two shows, Rock 'n' Roll at her own East Bay St. gallery and Songs of the Earth at the City Gallery at the Dock Street Theatre, "give local landmarks an accomplished abstract makeover," and Candice Ivy's evocative installation at the Old City Jail might be better viewed at night.
