Rain dance schedule: tomorrow at 6pm

Nobody hopes for rain on a weekend, but with the area as parched for a good downpour as it is right now, you could be forgiven for keeping your fingers crossed that tomorrow’s forecast – scattered thunderstorms – holds. At the same time, you could be forgiven for praying it holds off until early evening, especially if you’re planning on making the drive down to Kiawah Island for tomorrow’s “Prelude to Piccolo” at 3pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church at 2545 Bohicket Rd.

The free event, organized by Piccolo Spoleto and the Kiawah Art Council, features the Charleston Symphony Brass, Soprano Mary Hubble, and the Terranova Trio. The CSO’s regular season ends tonight, with an outdoor concert at Boone Hall Plantation, but the group nevertheless stays awfully busy during the festival. Mary Hubble, recently returned from studying at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, has a couple of appearances lined up for Piccolo’s Spotlight Concert Series (one of which is a solo gig). The Terranova Trio’s also skedded for a one-off special concert at Footlight Theatre during the Festival. Those events will all set you back $12 once May 25 rolls around, so a chance to see them gratis is something worth getting off a sofa for. And there are many worse ways to spend a springtime Sunday than on a scenic drive down to Kiawah.

It’s a dilemma: hope that the heavens open up or pray they hold off ? Can you postdate a rain dance?
